Snoring Breathing

My dad has loud snoring. He feels like he's tried everything. We've heard acupuncture helps, but that sounds odd. Thanx. What I found out was – Snoring is a huge problem in my house – and my husband is the culprit. I have a medical condition for which I take Ambien (rx sleeping med) to combat, and his snoring 'breaks through' the meds and still wakes me up. It is absolutely infuriating. Your dad might suffer from a deviated septum, thus resulting in his snoring. A deviated septum is an abnormal condition in which the top of the cartilaginous ridge leans to the left or the right, causing obstruction of the affected nasal passage. The condition can result in poor drainage of the sinuses. Patients can also complain of difficulty breathing easily, headaches, bloody noses, or of sleeping disorders such as snoring or sleep apnea. My husband, due to my insistance, had a 'sleep study' done, when he was monitored at a medical facility during his normal sleep cycle. The results showed moderate to severe sleep apnea (he'd briefly stop breathing during sleep), and he was prescribed a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) machine to use while sleeping. This device is designed to deliver continuous positive air pressure (not supplemental oxygen, mind you), to keep the sinuses open with the desired outcome being more restful sleep and no more snoring. Your dad might benefit greatly from a sleep study to evaluate his sleep pattern and thus reach a possible medical diagnosis for his snoring. Is he tired during the day, despite getting adequate sleep (8 hours)? Does he wake during the night? Does his snoring keep others awake? Most 'yes' answers to these questions warrant some further medical intervention for diagnosis and treatment. Snoring isn't just annoying for the wife or crucial other – it also disrupts the sleep for kids, and the snorer too. There are so many options available to combat snoring, but please be wary of 'quick fixes' you might find online – your dad's best bet is to schedule an appointment with his doctor.

I suggest that your Dad consult with a Medical Dr. Who specializes in sleep disorders,he can call the ASSA American Sleep Apnea Association at 202-293-3650 or fax them at 202-293-3656 There are two kinds of Sleep Apnea,Obstructive Sleep Apnea is caused by a blockage of the airway. Central Sleep Apnea the Airway is not blocked but the Brain fails to signal the Muscles to breathe, usually when the soft tissue in the rear of the Throat collapses and closes during sleep! Mixed Apnea is a combination of the two, obstructive and central Apnea! A person whoever suffers from Sleep Apnea often stops breathing hundreds of times during their sleep, and sleep is fragmented and of poor quality and leaves the person waking with a feeling of being tired and restless as if they had gotten little if any sleep at all! Left untreated Sleep Apnea can cause high Blood pressure,Cardiovascular disease, memory loss and headaches! I was diagnosed with sleep Apnea and I spent a couple of nights at a sleep center and they hook wires up all over your body and monitor your sleep patterns, there is no pain at all! I was given a c-pap machine that forces air into your Lungs while you sleep and you awake every morning feeling fresh and ready to meet another day! Death may occur if left untreated! Consult with a local Pulmonologist >Lung Specialist< and they can give you important information or call or fax the numbers that I listed earlier! God Bless! Tell him to call soon,I'm happy I did!
